Many people know Girona particularly from the airport. It is a commonly used starting point to explore the Costa Brava, the Pyrenees and of course Barcelona. This is understandable but also a missed opportunity, because Girona is wonderful…

To and from the airport:

Girona:

Bus 607 brings you directly in 30 minutes from Girona airport to the trainstation of Girona. The busses depart from bay 1 just outside the terminal building. During the summer season busses run every half an hour, more information on timetables via this link. A single ticket to the Girona costs €2.70

 

Barcelona:

Girona Airport is also often used for travelers with destination Barcelona. Bus 604 is a direct service from the airport to Estacio d' Autobusos Barcelona Nord. The journey takes approximately 90 minutes and a single tickets cost €15. More information on timetables via this link

  • Located within the Força Vella, the Jewish Quarter or Call is one of the city's most emblematic areas. It consists of a labyrinth of narrow streets and patios that have maintained their medieval atmosphere. It is one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in the world and clear evidence of the importance of the Jewish culture in Girona.
  • Girona offers spectacular images of steep alleyways, porticoed streets and squares and, above all, the brightly painted façades of the houses overlooking the Onyar (the river that crosses the city) which provide the most emblematic image of the city. One of these houses is Casa Masó, which is open to the public. Of particular interest among the bridges that span the river are the slender and lightweight Gómez bridge and the Palanques Vermelles bridge (1827), which was built by the Eiffel company.
  • The extension of the Roman walls during the medieval ages today enables visitors to stroll along a walkway following some sections of the longest Carolingian walls in Europe. The various towers are excellent vantage points offering views over the city and the surrounding areas.

  • Open-air market held in the Devesa Park, just a stone's throw from Girona shopping district and historic centre, with some 200 stalls selling fruit, vegetables, clothes, footwear, accessories, toiletries, and many other products. The crowds that throng here every week prove that the market is one of the main attractions of the city. Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
  • For 10 days in may, the city's historical buildings, courtyards and gardens are adorned with floral arrangements and art installations, with a programme of cultural events, fine dining and commercial acitivities.
